Two welding machines, two vehicle hoists in a 200m² workshop, and a single employee — that’s how it began. Driven by the desire to apply hands-on engineering knowledge, we set out to build a solution for the one customer who refused ramps and large vehicles. Our passion was to create a compact, wheelchair-accessible vehicle fit for popular people movers like the Kia Carnival and Honda Odyssey, with seamless access requiring no ramps or manual lifting. After six months and $200,000, the perfect design emerged. Thus, the unique “internal elevator” concept was born.
The founder of Mobility Scooter Life, Williams Denzel (commonly referred to as Denz), graduated from the Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2005, specializing in motorsport technology. He continued his education at the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive Systems Engineering in 2010 and presenting his Master’s thesis in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech in 2012.
Just two years away from completing his PhD, Denz decided he had gained enough expertise to bridge the gap he saw between hands-on technicians and engineers in the American automotive industry.
Before finishing his university studies, his first job was testing vehicle parts for American Axle & Manufacturing, a key supplier to major US automakers such as Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler.
In 2012, he began working as a fully qualified mechanical engineer, designing, developing, and building wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Within two years, he was promoted to a managerial role and became deeply involved in R&D across a range of mobility and disability products.
To master every detail of production and identify areas for improvement, Denz left the office to work directly alongside welders, panel beaters, and builders on the factory floor. This allowed him to deliver firsthand reports to the director on where production needed optimization. He was promoted to General Manager in 2015. Beyond personally building products, he researched and identified new vehicles in the US market suitable for conversion to wheelchair-accessible models. The Honda Odyssey was introduced in 2015, followed by the Kia Sorento in 2016 after extensive consultation with the team.
Denz is a member of the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and is a certified Professional Engineer licensed in multiple states under the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
